Sagewood STEAM Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Southeast Columbus, Ohio. The school integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) concepts across its curriculum, using project-based instruction to connect classroom learning to real-world problems. The school earned a 3-Star Progress rating on the Ohio State Report Card.

Instruction is hands-on by design. Teachers use project-based learning across all grade levels, so students don't just study subjects in isolation; they apply reading, math, and science to challenges that require creative thinking and collaboration. Every classroom is equipped with 1:1 Chromebook access and Smartboard technology.

The school operates in a small-school setting with what families describe as a close-knit, family-like atmosphere. In a building this size, teachers know every student. Not just by name, but by what motivates him or her, what trips him or her up, and what kind of day he or she is having.

Social-emotional learning is part of the daily routine, not an add-on program. The school treats academics and emotional health as the same job, not two separate departments. Students receive character and behavior recognition regularly.

Kindergarten enrollment is open to students who turn 5 by December 31, with early entrance available for those who qualify through an assessment. School hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. After-school care and homework help are available through Bettering Our Youth.

Support services include on-site counseling through North Community Counseling Centers, free breakfast and lunch for every student, and yellow bus transportation through Columbus City Schools for families living within district boundaries. Family events, back-to-school bashes, and graduation ceremonies bring families into the school community throughout the year.

There is no tuition, no application fee, and no cost to families.

Sagewood Preparatory Academy is a public, community school. We are our own school district sponsored by Charter School Specialists, which provides oversight and enforces academic, fiscal, and legal accountability.  We are managed by ACCEL Schools, a high-performing network of over 50 charter schools located throughout the United States.
